Dr. Vanounou is a renowned surgeon specializing in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. After completing surgical training at Harvard Medical School, he pursued dual fellowships in surgical oncology and hepatobiliary surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, with a focus on advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques.
In 2010, Dr. Vanounou performed Canada’s first robotic pancreas resection, followed by the nation’s first robotic liver resection in 2011. As Head of the Division of Liver and Pancreas Surgery at the Jewish General Hospital, he continues to lead the country in robotic liver and pancreas surgery, pushing the boundaries of innovation in the field.
Dr. Vanounou also serves as the Program Director for the Advanced Minimally Invasive Hepatobiliary Surgery Fellowship at the Jewish General Hospital. This is Canada’s only fellowship offering specialized training in robotic liver and pancreas surgery, reflecting his dedication to advancing surgical techniques and mentoring the next generation of leaders in minimally invasive surgery.
